Popular festivals in Barbados are:-
Jazz Festival
The Jazz festival occurs in January and involves local, regional and international jazz artists.
Holetown Festival
In February, to celebrate the historic event of the first European settlers at Holetown, (17th. February 1627), there is a festival including church services, music, dancing, parades, organized sports, a street market and fair.
Oistins Fish Festival
This is ususlly around Easter weekend and is a way of organizing and paying tribute to the men and women in the fishing industry. Oistins is the main fishing town of Barbados. In addition to the usual festive activities, the people in the fishing industry are given a chance to exhibit the skills of their trade.
GospelFest
This is a spiratual celebration that Barbadians use to express their African heritage through music. It is held for three(3) days in May when local, Caribbean and International artists come together.
Crop Over Festival(Barbados Carnival)
This commences in the middle of July and ends the first Monday in August. It is a festival of music, dance, craft and food to celebrate the end of the harvesting of the Barbadian sugar crop.It reaches its grand finale on Kadooment Day(first Monday in August) with a colourful street carnival parade from the National Stadium to the Spring Garden Highway.
Holders Season
This festival, which occurs in Easter, traditionally features opera, classical music, jazz, Latin and Caribbean music, polo, celebrity golf and cricket.
Celtic Festival
This is a musical festival which commences in May and is an interchange between Caribbean and Celtic cultures.One of the many highlights is a Scottish pipe band joining a local marching band in a stirring, colourful tattoo.
